The multidisciplinary team of UF breast cancer specialists at the UF&Shands Breast Center provides the full range of breast cancer care services to develop the optimal treatment plan for each patient. We have the only team dedicated entirely to breast cancer care in North Central Florida and the region’s only nationally accredited breast center.
The Breast Center team consistently leads the way in developing innovative therapies and treatments for breast cancer, including performing the first MR-guided breast biopsy in North Central Florida.
Additionally, the UF&Shands Breast Center is the first program in Florida and one of only a dozen programs nationwide to offer intraoperative radiation for breast cancer using the Intrabeam Radiation System.
The Breast Center team offers several types of treatments for stages of breast cancer, including:
- Surgery for breast cancer
- Lumpectomy- removes a small tumor and a margin of normal tissue around the tumor
- Mastectomy – surgery to remove the entire breast
- Chemotherapy for breast cancer
- Radiation for breast cancer
- Hormone therapy – prevents cancer cells from receiving the hormones needed to grow
